Foreign Coffee – DAY 6 of 19

DAY 6
Monday
5th March 2007

After checking out the show times, we realised that Monday was just a registration day for PMA. Since Wayne’s dad Max had already sent over the tickets, we were good to go.

So we spent another day touring about. We had breakfast at La Salsa Cantina for $16.43 – we helped ourselves to an extra glass of orange juice. Wayne managed to get internet access whilst we were there, guess someone felt like sharing their connection with us. This gave us a chance to check the exchange rate, which is currently R7.46 to $1.00. *ouch*

We were “fortunate” enough to witness the only feature our casino actually has, the “Rain Storm.”. Basically the artificial sky flashes and it rains over a specific body of water in the middle of a walkway in the shopping area. I suppose this is the desert after all, so for some, a rain storm would be quite something.

I purchased some souvenirs for my lift buddies, Judy & Paul. I also got a small name plate for myself. Wayne picked up a little something for J, Pom & Saysh too. I am keen to also pick up something for Mark, Brett, Tarenn, Melissa & Lauren. So far we’ve spent a total of $9.65 on souvenirs.

We visited the Stratosphere, but it was $10.00 just to go up in the tower, so we passed on that one, same as we did with the Paris Eiffel Tower. The ride once you were up at the top of the Stratosphere was an additional $15.00.

We purchased another 24 hour bus pass & used it to visit Circus Circus this time. The entire casino looks like a giant circus tent, it is quite something! We watched a free circus show there, they have one every half hour or so. Apparently there is also a full Adventure Amusement Park, AdventureDome in there too, although I did not know this at the time & unfortunately, we never got to see it.

Then we headed across the way to the Riviera. We tried out the 99c menu at a place there called Hound Doggies. I had a foot-long hotdog, as did Wayne and I had a fruit smoothie whilst Wayne had a Pepsi. Our total was $4.27, our cheapest meal yet… but the fruit smoothie was really terrible. They should have replaced the word “fruit” with “syrup”; it tasted as if someone had emptied a bucket of sugar into it. *ick* Spose you get what you pay for, all 99c of it, lol.

We then caught The Deuce up the strip again to the Fashion Show Mall [ LINK - ]. Once again, we found ourselves visiting the Apple Store, I decided to treat my mom & got her an iPod Shuffle. Prices are much cheaper here than at home in S.A.

APPLE
RhinoSkin Shuffle Accents 4pk    $  19.95
iPod Shuffle, Silver                      $  79.00
Tax                                            $   7.67
Total                                         $ 106.62

Wayne also did some shopping & purchased some nifty Apple accessories.

APPLE
World Travel Adapter Kit              $  39.00
Apple iPod Camera Connector     $  29.00
Apple iPod USB Power Adapter   $  29.00
Tax                                            $   7.52
Total                                         $ 104.52

Unfortunately, with so many different brands and kinds of digital cameras available, Apple could not assure us of whether or not the Camera Connector would work with our camera. However, they said if we went to test it out and found that it didn’t, we could simply come back within the next few days to return it. Fortunately, the connector had absolutely no trouble with our Fuji FinePix E550 digital camera.

We headed back to the hotel to drop our stuff off & then caught The Deuce up the strip. We visited the New York, New York Hotel where Wayne was keen to ride their screamish Manhattan Express rollercoaster, since this was not my cup of tea, I politely declined. It was $15.00 anyway, but Wayne wouldn’t go on without me. The screams I heard from across the road were enough to put me off, lol.

From the New York, New York Hotel, we headed across the way to take a walk through the array of shops at the Excalibur, known as “Castle Walk”. We visited a shop there called “Dragon’s Lair” which had some rather interesting clothing, dragon statues and other general castle memorabilia.

We also strolled through the Luxor & took a look at the shops at Mandalay Bay. We walked to the far end of Mandalay Bay to see there Shark Reef, whilst some things are free, there is a lot of stuff that isn’t, and this was one of them. At $15.95 to see the Shark Reef, we decided it probably wasn’t much better than uShaka back home. Also, I think even if it was free, we were far too buggered. We were pretty damn exhausted after a full day of sight seeing.

We caught The Deuce to O’Sheas & tried out Burger King. The cheapest thing on the menu was a Number 11, a BK Double Stacker meal for around $4.65 each. It did come with chips and as always, bottomless soda.

BURGER KING
1x Large Combo Double Stacker     $  5.09
1x Med Combo Double Stacker       $  4.69
Tax                                               $  0.76
Total                                            $ 10.54

We finally reached the hotel again at around 21:30. My feet were so achy; it felt like my bones were pressing through the soles of my feet.
